This section examines the recommendations for sodium intake (as well as other dietary components). This section compares current sodium intake to the levels recommended in the 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines. It also describes food sources of sodium, and dietary shifts that individuals can make in order to lower their sodium intake.

Scientific Report of the 2015 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee (February 2015)


This report informs the Federal government of current scientific evidence on topics related to diet, nutrition and health, and provides the government with a foundation for developing a national nutrition policy. The Federal government will determine how to use this information as they develop the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.
